Supplemental HR help allows client to focus on company goals
The challenge
- For over fifteen years, HR Options has
partnered with a major international shipping and transportation company
to provide a variety of human resource services. Five years ago, the
company underwent a major transition when it was acquired. As could be
predicted, over the next several years there were a variety of organizational
changes, repositioning of job functions, and the inevitable downsizing.
At the same time, the human resource department was charged with a host of
new human resource strategic initiatives. The challenge was how to carve
out time for the human resource department to accomplish new initiatives
while at the same time managing the increased human resource activity - all
with less manpower.
The process
- HR Options (HRO) had the solution. Our expertise
is in dealing with the routine, operational, and transactional day-to-day
human resource functions and requirements. Through an employment center
program that we had operated with the client for many years, we assumed more
on-site human resource operational duties. From posting jobs to completing
new employee paperwork, we acted in a supplemental role to the HR department.
Additionally, as project work became available, HRO, under the direction
of the client, jumped in when and where necessary to supplement the client
human resource staff. In many cases, where the client felt comfortable, entire
projects were delegated and managed by HRO.
The result
- The power of this relationship was, and is, in
the adaptability and flexibility of the support provided by HRO. "There is hardly any human resource support function that HRO has not
helped us with over the years," says the Director of Staffing and Diversity Programs. "We count on their partnership
to bring experienced, supplemental human resource help when and where needed;
and to do so with creativity, initiative, in the most professional manner, and
with the most cost-effective results. They are truly an extension of our HR
department." The continuing result is that, as the client's needs change,
so do the services provided by HRO. From the lowest common human
resource denominator to the highest level of project support, the relationship
is synergistic.
