HR functions evaluated and client back in good health

The challenge
- Our client in the entertainment industry needed a check-up. While human resource issues were being handled in the best fashion possible given the available resources, they were nonetheless dealt with on the fly. Employment issues were complicated by the variety of staffing requirements demanded within the industry: salaried, hourly, full-time, part-time, and a large volunteer component. There was genuine concern over where the company stood in relation to human resource processes, policies, and practices, and the potential danger posed to the overall health of the organization. A check-up by HRO was in order.

The process - The initial goal was to complete a detailed human resource assessment. Through this review we were able to uncover not only obvious issues but previously unknown and potentially disruptive employment situations and processes, as well. Once the assessment was complete, projects and tasks were identified and priorities set. From new job descriptions to new hire set-up, from compensation to employee performance and review, we started a process targeting the key areas needing improvement or correction. The entire process was designed to set the proper framework for a solid human resource infrastructure. Initially, the requirements called for weekly on-site visits with some work being completed off site. As the human resource infrastructure improved and employees put their trust in the new policies and procedures, the mix of on-site and off-site support and frequency of that support changed, correspondingly.

The result - HRO has supported this client for over five years. The client now has a solid human resource base and, as expected, the involvement by HR Options is different. As laws change and impact employment situations, policies and procedures, our role is more maintenance in nature. Upon request, HRO is involved in more difficult human resource issues and specific project work. As stated by the General Manager, "HRO is a key participant in the operation of our business. We count on them to provide a professional, unbiased outside viewpoint to ever-occurring human resource issues."
