Client solves staffing demand with retirees and former employees
The challenge
- A major international chemical manufacturer
faced a contingent-staffing dilemma.
As demand and production varied, how could they operate with a core staffing
plan and supplement their professional and semi-professional staff with trained,
competent, and skilled employees on an as-needed basis? This supplemental
workforce was a key component to bottom line results, so it had to be managed
effectively, efficiently, and responsibly.
The process
- HR Options (HRO) put together a national program for
the client using former employees and retirees who met the identified skill
requirements. The risks associated with reinstating valuable contingent employees
were high; therefore, our twenty years of experience in managing this type of
project was critical to its success. Prior to HRO's involvement, individual
supervisors were each doing their best to solve their supplemental staffing needs.
All the managers had different methods, some effective and some not. As a result,
the process was slow. HRO initiated a national process for the client in
which we acted as the focal point. Managers began to refer potential employees
directly to HRO. To protect the client and the employee, HRO became,
in every respect, the employer of the new hire. HRO managed the hiring
process from start to finish - from offer letter to separation or assignment end,
from paying the employee to employee relations. The process was simple and
automatic, while at the same time personal and unique. It was, and is, critical
to the program that these individuals are handled responsibly and professionally
as their comfort and individual care directly relate to job performance.
HRO's experience is in dealing with high level employees' unique needs and
in personally taking them through the employment process when and if necessary.
From dealing with visa issues to expense reimbursement, we shouldered the responsibility.
The results
- As the Director of Human Resources indicates: "The entire process from
start to finish couldn't work better. The process is simple, clear, efficient,
and cost effective. Moreover, the employees are extremely satisfied; therefore,
we are." HRO has been able to deal with this critical element of staffing
in a professional, prompt, and experienced manner. As a result, the client has
been able to cope with the ups and downs in the world of high-end staffing
requirements. The relationship has been in place for over 10 years, and it
continues to grow each year.
